Stretch
Last updated: November 26, 2006
Company Description:
Stretch is delivering a family of software-configurable processors, the first standard product to embed programmable logic within the processor. Using familiar C/C++ programming tools, system developers automatically configure Stretch off-the-shelf processors to achieve extraordinary performance, easy and rapid development, significant cost savings, and flexibility to address diverse markets and changing application needs.
It's no Stretch to say that Stretch wants to redefine its niche of the microchip market. The company develops processor chips that contain programmable logic elements. Customers can program and configure the chips using Stretch software compilers, which translate widely known programming languages (C and C++) into the arcane instructions required by programmable logic devices. Stretch touts its designs, which can be used in electronic gear such as PCs, wireless phones, and servers, as shortening development time while lowering costs. CEO Gary Banta and CTO Albert Wang founded the company in 2002. Its investors include Menlo Ventures, Oak Investment Partners, and Worldview Technology Partners.
