Summary: XLINK completes the N.A.T. family of adaptors, now offering the integration of not only PMC and IP modules but also of PCI cards and complete PCI based sub-systems into MicroTCA- systems.
Full Text: N.A.T., specialist for high-performance network interfaces and industrial computers, introduces its newest plug-and-play member of the family of adaptors at Electronica 2008: XLINK. XLINK allows the easy and direct integration of PCI based systems into MicroTCA based systems, providing all advantages of a MicroTCA system without any additional software effort.
XLINK comprises of a pair of an AMC module and a PCI card, connected by a PCIexpress link cable. The AMC module resides in a MicroTCA system and the PCI card is plugged into the system-host slot of a passive PCI backplane.
From the perspective of system host in the MicroTCA system the PCI sub-system as integrated by XLINK, is considered to be just another AMC module with multiple PCI devices on it.
XLINK performs the transition from PCIexpress to PCI (and vice versa) transparently. Because of PCIexpress being completely software compatible with PCI any adaption of PCI device drivers is not required. Thus any application software coming from the world of PCI can instantly run in a MicroTCA system.
XLINK allows PCI based systems to be used with standardized functions and tools for management and control, easy-to-swap AMC components, alarms and – if required – to even be extended to high-availability.
