Now in its 10th year, The UK Embedded Masterclass will take place in both Cambridge and Bristol this year. The Embedded Masterclass is an event that brings developers of microprocessor based systems together with worldwide vendors of the tools and technologies that are necessary for the development of these types of systems. This year the event will take place on the 7th and 12th May http://www.embedded-masterclass.com

"It's called the 'Embedded Masterclass' because the industry describes these systems as 'embedded systems', as every device has a microprocessor embedded within the design." explained Richard Blackburn, the organiser. "We are talking about the development of products such as mobile phones, digital camera's, satnav's, even medical electronics and air traffic control systems. It's a big industry in the UK, it's an area where we have excelled in the past 10 to 15 years. Many well known global brands have development teams here in the UK."

This year´s event will include four developers workshops, an agenda of technical presentations and a vendor tabletop exhibition. The event is billed as a 'non-sales forum', as every effort is made to ensure that the workshops, presentations and vendor exhibition are focused on leading edge technology and tools, rather than being a sales driven event.

"Our objective is always to ensure that engineers find their time at the event to be productive," said Richard. "It's a chance for them to get up to date with developments in this market and to explore the new technologies that are becoming available. From this point of view, I think the Embedded Masterclass is quite unique and probably why it grown year on year."

A key aspect at this years event will be a GUI Development workshop. A GUI is a 'graphical user interface´; this is the display that now exists on everything from a cash point machine to a camera. The workshop will explore how GUI's are developed and what new technologies are available to help engineers build the next generation of graphical user interfaces. This workshop will also explore how GUI's are now being developed using Adobe PhotoShop to create attractive and compelling interfaces for a wide range of embedded devices.

"The other workshops cover developing with Embedded Linux, MISRA C and software timing analysis," said Richard. "We had very good feedback on last years workshops, so we are excited that this side of the event is growing. These workshops are lead by real experts in their field, registrations for the workshops are already rolling in."

Exhibitors at the event represent many of the world's finest developers of tools and technologies for embedded systems. These include MontaVista and Birdstep Technology from the US, Lauterbach and Goepel from Germany, Enea from Sweden, Innova Systems, SDC Systems, Rapita Systems and LDRA from the UK.
