Full Text:
Motorola Computer Group, a part of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and the driver of the VME Renaissance, today announced its latest off-the-shelf software offering. Motorola Built-In Test (MBIT) software is designed to verify the correct operation of Motorola Computer Group hardware and enable the incorporation of system-level diagnostics. Available in both board-level and system-level versions, the MBIT provides the infrastructure needed to predict and schedule repair and maintenance. This helps to reduce the cost of unplanned equipment downtime, enables faster technician trouble-shooting and reduces spare part inventory.

The board-level MBIT is a comprehensive diagnostic software package designed to verify the performance of board-mounted logic devices. All tests can start at boot-up and selected tests can run continuously in the background of user applications. An application programming interface (API) is included to provide access to test results and to modify and control the operation of device tests. Users can configure MBIT via the API to invoke tests at both the test and sub-test level and can also control test execution and sequencing. Many sub-tests can be run in the background repetitively and all tests can be run at system boot-up. Any faults detected are stored in a fault database and reported back to the user as requested. Exception handling programs prevent MBIT from crashing due to hardware faults.

The system level MBIT includes all functionality and API function calls of the board-level version and enables system-wide testing. It provides a framework and additional API function calls to support the inclusion of software designed to test custom hardware and/or system components.
