Summary:

"Our customer survey has shown that many developers want to develop applications for Linux targets, but use the existing Windows(r) infrastructure," explains Knut Degen, CEO of the SYSGO AG. "With Windows(r) Cross we are consequently continuing the way to enlarge the potential application of Linux."

An additional key enhancement of ELinOS v3.1 is the integration of Linux kernel v2.6.9 for all available hardware architectures. The new kernel has an improved scheduler which inherently offers faster response time. Furthermore great parts of the kernel code are now interruptable, and the latency of task switches has been strongly reduced. These changes allow the use of Linux for many industrial applications even without real time extensions. Additionally, the implementation of threads with NPTL (Native POSIX Threading Library) has been improved and is now compliant to the POSIX standard, the memory management is optimized, and a new Block I/O system has been implemented. Various security modules such as IPSec and Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) have been integrated into kernel v2.6 and - due to ELinOS - are now accessible for embedded systems.

Beyond that, the well established 2.4 kernel is still available with ELinOS v3.1 and fully supported by its tools.

With ELinOS SYSGO offers a complete development environment for embedded Linux. Together with the CoTools CODEO and COGNITO, which were already introduced with version 3.0, the whole software development cycle of a product can be covered. Furthermore the new Custom Board Support Program is meant as a bracket between hardware vendors and device manufacturers to slim down the value chain.
