Company Description:
A couple of years ago I was working at a large chip manufacturer as one of the engineers responsible for putting a communications MAC on an ASIC. In consideration of size, power, and fab constraints, we decided to use an ARM7 running at 40 MHz as the core of this MAC. We concluded that due to some latency intolerant tasks in the MAC, we needed a preemptive operating system. The field was researched, and we chose an RTOS (I will call Brand X) as the smallest, fastest and most suitable. On paper everything fit. The timing was tight in some spots, but with the hardware acceleration we built, all MAC tasks would run in the chosen environment.
