RTS Real-Time Hypervisor for Multicore x86

Last updated: October 16, 2007

Company:

Real-Time Systems GmbH

Description:

The trend in semiconductor technology clearly goes to multicore architectures.
The RTS Real-Time Hypervisor is a new technology that allows the individual cores of an x86 multicore processor to be treated as independent computers.
Multiple of the same or a mix of different operating systems can be booted and executed in hard real-time independent of one another in parallel. During operation individual processor cores can even reboot without disturbing the operation of others.
Each Core has its dedicated hardware resources, i.e. its own memory, IRQs or assigned PCI devices. Hardware for real-time operating systems therefore is not virtualized and can be accessed directly, using standard drivers with no latencies added.
Communication between the processor cores is achieved via a virtual TCP/IP network as well as through a user configurable shared memory.
